Ingredients
Scale
- 3 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon sugar
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 2¼ teaspoons instant yeast
- ¾ cup warm water
- ¼ cup warm milk
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- ¼ cup za’atar spice
- ⅓ cup extra virgin olive oil
Instructions
- Start by preparing the dough. In a large mixing bowl, combine all-purpose flour, sugar, salt, and instant yeast. Slowly add the warm water and warm milk, followed by the olive oil. Mix the ingredients until they form a dough.
- Knead the dough for about 5 to 7 minutes on a floured surface until it becomes soft and elastic. If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle some extra flour as needed.
- Place the kneaded dough in a lightly oiled bowl, cover it with a cloth, and let it rise in a warm place for about 30 minutes or until it doubles in size.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into 4 to 6 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a flat circle about ¼ inch thick on a floured surface.
- For the topping, mix the za’atar spice with extra virgin olive oil until you reach a paste-like consistency. Spread this mixture generously over each rolled-out dough circle.
- Preheat your oven to 450°F (232°C). Bake the flatbreads on a baking sheet for about 10 to 12 minutes or until they puff up and turn golden brown. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
Use fresh za’atar for the best flavor. Store in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
