- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 tablespoon red food coloring

- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup cream cheese
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (for frosting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease your baking dish with butter.
- In a medium bowl, combine the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt. Stir to mix the dry ingredients well.
- In another large bowl, cream together the granulated sugar and softened butter until light and fluffy. Add the egg, buttermilk, red food coloring, and vanilla extract; mix until fully combined.
- Gradually add the dry ingredient mixture to the wet ingredients, stirring until just combined.
- Roll out the dough on a floured surface into a rectangle. Spread softened butter over the rolled-out dough, then sprinkle with brown sugar and cinnamon.
- Tightly roll the dough into a log and slice it into equal rolls. Place the rolls in your prepared baking dish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the rolls have risen and are slightly golden on top.
- While the rolls are baking, prepare the frosting by mixing the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and vanilla extract until smooth.
- Once baked, allow the rolls to cool slightly before spreading the cream cheese frosting over the top. Serve warm and enjoy!
Notes
For a gluten-free option, substitute regular flour with a gluten-free flour blend. You can also add espresso powder for a mocha twist or chocolate chips for added richness.
