- 2 cups Whole milk
- 4 ounces Dark chocolate (70% cocoa)
- 2 tablespoons Cocoa powder
- 2 tablespoons Granulated sugar
- 1 teaspoon Vanilla extract
- a pinch Salt
- Whipped cream (optional) for topping
Instructions
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the whole milk, granulated sugar, and a pinch of salt. Stir occasionally until the sugar dissolves completely.
- Once the mixture starts to warm, add the cocoa powder, whisking to avoid lumps. Add the chopped dark chocolate as the milk continues to heat.
- When the chocolate has melted and the mixture is smooth, stir in the vanilla extract.
- Off the heat, let it cool slightly, then pour into mugs. Top with whipped cream and a sprinkle of cocoa if desired.
Notes
For a dairy-free version, substitute almond or oat milk and use vegan chocolate. Try adding a pinch of cinnamon or espresso for different flavors.
