Deliciously rich and fudgy brownies made with leftover sourdough starter, perfect for a quick treat or dessert.

  • Total Time: 40 minutes
  • Yield: 9 brownies 1x

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2/3 cup sourdough starter discard
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare your 8×8-inch baking pan by lining it with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the melted butter and granulated sugar until smooth. Add the sourdough starter discard, eggs, and vanilla extract, mixing well to incorporate.
  3. Sift in the cocoa powder, flour, and salt, stirring gently until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips. Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan.
  4. Bake for 28-32 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted comes out with a few moist crumbs. Let cool in the pan before slicing.

Notes

Don’t overmix the batter to keep brownies fudgy. Store in an airtight container for up to 1 week.
