Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups All-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup Sugar
- 1 packet (2 1/4 tsp) Active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup Milk
- 1/4 cup Butter, melted
- 2 Eggs
- 1/2 tsp Vanilla extract
- 1/4 tsp Salt
- 1 cup Pastry cream
- Sugar for caramelizing As needed
Instructions
- Combine warm milk and active dry yeast in a bowl, then let sit for 5 minutes until frothy.
- Mix together the all-purpose flour, sugar, and salt in a large mixing bowl.
- Add the yeast mixture, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract to the dry ingredients. Mix until a dough forms.
- Knead the dough for about 5 minutes until smooth and elastic.
- Let the dough rise in a warm place until it doubles in size, about 1 hour.
- Roll out the dough and cut it into rounds using a donut cutter. Allow them to rise again for about 30 minutes.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer or heavy pot until it reaches 350°F (175°C). Fry the donuts until golden brown on each side.
- Cool the donuts slightly before filling them with pastry cream.
- Sprinkle sugar on top of each donut and caramelize with a kitchen torch for that signature crisp topping.
Notes
Make sure the oil is hot enough before frying for a perfect crispy texture. You can use almond milk as a dairy-free option.
