- 1 cup Water
- 2 cups Milk (or plant-based alternative)
- 1 tbsp Black tea leaves (or 2 bags)
- 2 tbsp Brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp Ground cinnamon
- 1/4 tsp Ground cloves
- 1/4 tsp Ground ginger
- 1/4 tsp Ground cardamom
- 1/8 tsp Ground nutmeg
- A pinch Ground black pepper
- 1/2 cup Heavy cream
- 1 tbsp Honey
- 1/4 tsp Reserved spice mix
Instructions
- Prepare spices: Combine cinnamon, cloves, ginger, cardamom, nutmeg, and black pepper in a bowl, reserving 1/4 tsp for later.
- In a saucepan, mix water, tea leaves/bags, brown sugar, and the remaining spice mix. Heat over medium until simmering.
- Reduce heat to low, stir in the milk, and steep chai for about 5 minutes.
- Strain chai into mugs to remove tea leaves. In a bowl, whisk heavy cream, honey, and reserved spice mix until soft peaks form.
- Spoon or pipe the spiced whipped cream over the chai latte, and sprinkle with extra cinnamon or nutmeg if desired.
Notes
For a dairy-free option, swap milk with a plant-based alternative like almond or oat milk. You can also use coconut cream instead of whipped cream.
